Qigong
Qigong is a Mandarin Chinese term to describe several systems of mental and physical training. This can include martial arts, overall health, and greater awareness and enlightenment. The word breaks down as “qi” for energy or spirit, and “gong” which means achieving results. Put them together and you have the generating and manipulating of one’s own intrinsic energy.Origin This practice originated in many different forms from various segments of Chinese society. Traditional Chinese Medicine uses it for preventative and curative health. Martial arts uses it to enhance abilities. The spiritual community, both Buddhist and Taoist, uses it for meditative purposes. The origin goes back to the legendary Yellow Emperor and the Book of Internal Medicine, which is also quite legendary. According to archeology, these first forms are linked to meditative practice and gymnastic exercises. The Training As a form of energy healing this healing system breaks down into four distinct types: static, dynamic, meditative, and the use of external aids such as massage, herbs, or physical manipulation. A system is comprised of one or more of these types. Essence The essence of this system is energy healing, and involves the manipulation and control of “qi” or energy. Breathing is combined with mental and physical training methods.
