Naturopath
A naturopath is a doctor who practices a form of alternative medicine that focuses on natural remedies, and the body’s natural ability to heal itself. My uncle was such a doctor, and I spent many hours at his office as both a patient and an observer, as well as attending many doctor conventions.A Unique Approach Many healthcare professionals embrace this holistic approach in their own specific disciplines. Surgery and drugs are a last resort, and vaccinations are not encouraged. Lifestyle and emotions are taken into consideration. Whole body wellness is emphasized by facilitating the body to heal itself. Origins This type of medicine grew out of the 19th century nature cure movement in Europe. The term was coined by John Scheel in 1895. It was later purchased by Benedict Lust who is considered the father of this medicine in the USA. Lust founded the first American school for this type of healing in 1902 in New York. Principles The main principles of this healing modality are focused on identifying and removing the cause of illness and disease, and not merely the symptoms. Promoting health by recognizing that the true healing power of nature is inherent in everyone is a key principle. Taking self responsibility for health, while respecting and honoring the dignity of each patient is fundamental. Naturopathy considers all individual health factors while treating a person. A wide variety of treatment modalities are used; many relying on our innate energy fields. As a child growing up immersed in this healing modality, I not only developed a natural health consciousness, but was able to share and expose this vital healing system to many others. For additional data on this most interesting field of healing check out the American Association for these type of physicians.
