Medical Acupuncture

Medical acupuncture is a viable system of healing not only in Chinese Medicine, but according to Dr. David Brestler, Director of UCLA’s pain center, “More people have been treated with acupuncture than all systems of medicine combined.” It is safe and effective for pain and injuries, but also is effective in treating many types of diseases.

What It Does

Acupuncture improves functioning by promoting natural healing of the body. Very thin needles are applied at very specific acupuncture points. Heat or electrical stimulation is also applied. It is safe. Energy meridians or channels run throughout the body, and they nourish the tissues. When any obstruction dams up the energy in one part of body, it is unable to flow freely to other parts.

The acupuncture needles unblock the obstruction, so the flow of energy can flow unimpeded. Treatments help the body’s internal organs to correct any imbalances in their energy production activities. It helps with the circulation of energy throughout the channels or meridians.

The needles stimulate the nervous system to release chemicals in the brain, spinal cord and muscles, thereby triggering release of other hormones and chemicals that allow the body to regulate itself. The result is improved energy and biochemical balance that promotes physical and emotional well being.

History

Acupuncture is the oldest contemporary medical system. It is a 5000 year old healing method. The term comes from the 15th century Jesuit missionaries who were in China. It is the combination of modern international medical science and classical acupuncture medicine.

The FDA in March of 1996 approved acupuncture as a medical treatment method. In July of 1997 it was incorporated into mainstream medicine by the FDA. It has proven to be both effective and valuable as a healing modality.

Medical acupuncture treats many diseases including mood swings. Since it is painless, even babies, toddlers and small children can receive treatment. It enhances the capabilities of the body, and has a powerful painkilling effect, so it is also used as an anesthetic for surgery. Acupuncture treats the causes as well as the symptoms of both physical and emotional challenges. For more detailed information check out this website.
