Happiness Secret

The happiness secret has nothing to do with the roles we play each day. Whether it’s mother, father, banker, lawyer, doctor, carpenter, plumber, son, daughter, aunt or uncle, it makes no difference. We each have our specialized niche and a part of this is hiding behind a “things are just fine”, “I’m okay”, or “couldn’t be better. And most frequently there is a lot of distress and pain that we are concealing.

Most unhappiness results from our thoughts about whatever circumstances or situation we are facing. Then our emotions kick in as a result of our thoughts. Being aware of this link between thought and emotion is critical, because then we can deal with what is really going on, instead of making up stories to hide behind.

Problems exist as a result of circumstances that we have focused upon or put our own power into. Consequently, we then feel the effect of our own power. We can only reclaim that power by opening our hearts.

Unexamined Thoughts

We confuse reality with a lot of preconceptions and assumptions about ourselves, others and the world. These stories keep us from fully experiencing the moment right now, and being truly who we are. We keep putting off satisfaction and happiness for some undetermined time in the future. When something is achieved or acquired, then we will allow ourselves to be happy. We are caught in this vicious circle of waiting forever for what is available right here and now.

By really examining our thoughts and beliefs we are able to come to terms with their validity. All the action is right here, and right now in the present. Embracing the present moment is also about feeling what we feel without describing or labeling. We keep our thoughts out of it, and allow what is there to be there. We are then positioned for truly remarkable things to happen.

Letting Go Of The Nonsense

When we empty ourselves of ideas, thoughts and beliefs that are not serving us, but actually holding us back, we are then a vessel for new ideas and inspiration to enter. We are alert and attentive to our thoughts and feelings. And it is this awareness and attentiveness that is the true happiness secret.

Happy children are kids that stay in the moment, and are not distracted by all the nonsense. Good parenting reinforces and encourages our children to be themselves, and pursue their dreams. Much creativity and innovation is just waiting to burst forth, when we stay focused on where the action is, right here, and right now.
