Why So Fearful?

Being fearful about many aspects of our life seems to be the norm. But what is this really all about? We are raised in a society filled with all kinds of distress, and early on we learn to buy into this program. But what is there really to be afraid about?

Being scared has much to do with the anger in children these days. Lacking adequate role models, kids are extremely frustrated. They deeply desire to express their true natures, but find themselves cornered by society’s expectations and rules of behavior.

A Convenient Illusion

What we all really lack and desire in our lives is excitement. Boredom is the killer, and kids intuitively know that, as we all do, if we will only admit it. Being afraid is driven by an illusion or imagined outcome. Think up something different and the apprehension magically disappears.

Although easier said than done, make some simple choices such as when you wake up spend a few moments thinking about what you really want to happen. Simple, but there is still much resistance to do this. "Oh, it will never work, or that’s not going to make any difference." Those very thoughts, or similar ones, are at the core of the problem.

But making this a habit will replace your anxiety based projection, which is the illusion. And of course please be patient. It’s taken years to develop and ingrain all these silly fears and apprehensions. Yes they are silly.

A Solution

Without getting really involved with a whole bunch of psychological nonsense, here’s a pretty straightforward way to emerge out of all the distress and negativity. First, do some relaxation training. You cannot be stressed when you are relaxed.

Then when relaxed address what is really going on. Create an energy field around yourself with your conscious effort of having thoughts and emotions of happiness and joy. Force it if you have to at the beginning, but just get used to experiencing this.

Allow yourself to feel the feelings that come up whether they are comfortable or not. Learn not to be afraid of uncomfortable feelings. Fear is just a feeling and nothing more. We get into trouble when we get in our own way by overreacting.

Don’t repress or ignore fear. When we were young we may have been told that there is nothing to be afraid about when we got uptight about school or some other event. But this just conditioned us to ignore our feelings and repress them. Not a good thing. What happens then is the energy from that feeling gets stuck or trapped.

Instead let’s learn to accept the feeling as a natural response to whatever we are dealing with, and then we are able to move forward. Fearful thoughts and feelings are just thoughts and feelings. We do not need to add anything to them other than experience what is there, and move on. If this sounds too simple, get used to it. That is all there is to do to release the energy and raise your vibration level. Click here to return to the Transforming Child Behavior Home page.
