Essential Minerals
Essential minerals are the building blocks of our bodies. These elemental minerals are necessary to supply the needed energy and nutrition to create bones, muscles, skin, fluids, connective tissues, and vessels that make up our bodies.Building Blocks Calcium, magnesium and potassium are the elemental minerals that work together to form bonds that make specific types of cells. Adequate supplies of these minerals are necessary to keep the body functioning properly. Calcium Calcium, the most abundant mineral in the body, is mostly deposited in the bones and teeth. The remainder provides the energy for muscle movement and for the heart to beat. Calcium also aids in the metabolism of Vitamin D. DNA replication also is a function of calcium. This is responsible for all body repair. Calcium is vital for maintaining the proper pH balance in the body as well. Acid depletes oxygen from the body, and calcium eliminates this acid. More oxygen is created at the cellular level, so it produces a healthy environment for cells. Magnesium Magnesium is essential for many body processes, and most is deposited in the teeth and bones. The rest is found in body fluids and soft tissues. Magnesium activates the enzymes necessary for metabolizing amino acids and carbohydrates. People with diabetes usually have a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is alkaline and can act as an antacid. Magnesium also retains the storage of potassium in the cells. How to sleep better can be helped by magnesium, since it has been known to alleviate insomnia. Calcium combined with magnesium is responsible for hard tooth enamel. Potassium Potassium is found mainly in the intracellular fluid, and works with sodium to preserve proper alkalinity of body fluids, eliminate waste products, and regulate water balances in the body. Potassium also helps with proper muscle and nerve function. These essential minerals are important to the proper functioning of the body. There are many very good natural food supplements available on the market that provide sufficient mineral supplementation. Keep the body healthy and in balance so that it can function at high levels in all your day to day activities.
