Empty Promises

Empty promisesAbound in life Contributing to Much anger and strife Very few role models To show us what to do Just mixed messages That are hard to construe Authority figures Demand our respect While ignoring their broken promises And all the neglect So why are we surprised By all the disobedience we perceive When our children Are not getting what they need Unconditional love Very seldom comes into play We’ve all become hypnotized By the words people say Hidden agendas Have become the norm Always pretending That there is no storm Taking responsibility For each word and act Is far more desirable And ethical in fact Having our children Do as we say Only works well When we “act” in a certain way Our children detect What is authentic and true And any discrepancy Quickly comes into view Can there be a reason That our kids get so bored While not understanding What all this is for There are no mysteries Or coincidences to blame When just below the surface We all are the same No matter how much We deny and dismiss Our feelings truly are The barometer of this Being afraid To say what we mean Has become a habit On which we do lean So no matter the condition Of our nation and world We hold the power To get what we deserve Let go of worry And resist no more There is an essence of Truth That permeates our core Living an authentic life Takes some discipline indeed But what is created Is exactly what we need At this point We are empowered To Be and to do Just state our intention And our dreams will come true So all the empty promises From our present or past Are really just meaningless And not meant to last We are the Ones That direct our lives When we open our heart We receive a pleasant surprise JWS 7/20/11
