Emotional Paralysis

And a reluctance to grow

Antipsychotic drugs

Are favored by some

But the many side effects

Aren’t that much fun

An invisible inner battle

Will run its course

Letting go of the struggle

Does not require force

Facing our demons

No matter how uncomfortable it may be

Is the only valid way

To set ourselves free

Adderall or aderol

However you want to spell it

Is not necessarily the magic pill

That gets your kids to sit still

So much trauma

That has occurred in the past

Has lingering effects

That really do last

The pain is so real

But hidden from sight

That others don’t have a clue

As to the extent of our plight

Being stuck in the moment

With these emotional fears

Is like being in quicksand

And nobody cares

We paralyze ourselves

In so many ways

When we accept false ideas

Thinking that we’re not okay

We are powerful beings

Capable of so much more

But at the same time forgetful

Of our Magical Core

Being insightful

Of what we can Be

The Master of our Life

By uncovering the Key

There’s no need for guilt

Or for feeling ashamed

It’s a waste of time

Finding things to blame

There is a solution

No matter the cause

By experiencing our feelings

We are able to pause

That moment of reflection

No matter how brief

Allows us to breathe

And provides some relief

Breaking through barriers

That have been set in stone

Is no easy task

When we are alone

Help is available

Always close at hand

It takes a little courage

For us to understand

Each baby step

May not seem like much

But the difference it makes

Eliminates our emotional crutch

Once we break through

There’s no turning back

Then emotional paralysis

Will be the thing that we lack
