Child Exercise As A Positive Alternative

Over the years working with kids, I have found child exercise to be one of the best ways not only to keep fit physically, but also mentally and emotionally as well. Physical activity has been found to increase focus and attention and improve mood.

Exercise helps with many brain functions such as memory, sequencing, sustaining attention, prioritizing and inhibiting. When kids are less impulsive they are in a better state to learn. Parenting education requires investigating all aspects of dealing with child behavior, and exercise is an essential area.

ADHD in children is very prevalent today, which necessitates looking into many alternatives to meds. When exercising, your brain releases chemicals that regulate pain, pleasure and mood. Brain chemicals affect focus and attention as well. Alertness is increased.

Exercise should be fun. Doing physical activity in which a child is totally engaged makes it effortless. Ballet, gymnastics, martial arts, team sports, running, biking, walking or whatever suits the tastes of the individual child. Kids would much rather regulate their mood and focus through exercise, so let's encourage and role model for them. Click here for the Transforming Child Behavior Home Page.
