Ali Hewson
Ali Hewson, wife of Bono, lead singer of U2, leads a double life as a political activist and wife of an international rock star. She has long been active in causes for a better earth, for the abolishment of sweat shop labor, and fighting for victims of nuclear toxins such as those of Chernobyl.Bono also is active in many causes as well such as The ONE Campaign, which works for better medical care and living conditions for people in Third World countries. Background Born Alison Stewart on 23 March 1961, she grew up in Rahven, a suburb located on Dublin's Northside, and she studied at Mount Temple Comprehensive School where she met Bono. They began dating in November 1975, and were married August 21, 1982. They have four (4) children together. They live in Killinev, Ireland, which is in South County Dublin. She received a B.A. degree in Sociology and Political Science from the University College Dublin (UCD) in 1989. She is the founder of the EDUN fashion label, which encourages fair trade with and the abolition of child labor and sweat shops in Third World countries.
In addition to narrating “Black Wind White Land”, an Irish film which highlights the plight of victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986, she has also participated in the film "Chernobyl Heart" with Adi Roche. She is a patron of the Chernobyl Children’s Project International, which is an organization that supports families, children, and communities that continue to be affected by the disaster. She also participated in protests with Greenpeace against the Sellafield reprocessing plant. In addition to her own work, she supports Bono in his campaigning against Third World poverty. She appeared in the music video of U2’s song “The Sweetest Thing”, and gave all the income she earned from its sales to the Chernobyl Children’s Project International. Role Model of Compassion and Giving Back Living a high profile lifestyle in both her business and married life, Ali Hewson is a compassionate and committed facilitator of constructive change. Just a little bit of awareness reveals that we live in a world with a disruptive behavior disorder that requires much healing and managed care.
